Limoges Boxes became popular
in the twentieth century in Limoges and not Paris. Limoges Boxes were
hand-crafted in amounts never seen before. By 1900's there were 35
factories producing limoges boxes. By 1920 there were 48 factories
producting limoges boxes. In the 1940's limoges boxes were once again
used as snuff boxes.
Limoges Boxes has a huge boom in the 1970's. the number of manufactures
who produce limoges boxes has increase dramatically. Although many
American's believe limoges boxes are made in one singular factory,
today's porcelain is made in many different firms. There are about 35
factories that make limoges boxes in limoges today. These factories
employ an average of 60 people.
Snuff went out of style long ago. These limoges boxes have developed
into a friendship and love collectible decorative objects.
Today the region employs some 1500 workers who are specific to creating
limoges porcelain including limoges boxes. 500 of them work exclusively
on limoges boxes.
